This research makes full use of the potentiality of molecular data to investigate challenging systematic problems, addressing the very processes that led to the taxonomic diversity we observe today in this group of beetles. Structured as four independent chapters as scientific articles (a couple published already), it offers a wealth of biological and systematic information about the taxon of interest, but also, several original approaches to molecular clocks or molecular taxonomy, among others, for the general reader.
