International Day of Women and Girls in Science Celebration at IBE

The Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, UPF-CSIC) together with the PRBB is pleased to invite you to the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on the 11th of February.  This year we would like to welcome all the community to a 1h15’ event that will include a short film session and a core subject discussion.

The IBE will also contribute to the conversation with a social media campaign to visualise the #SHEroes in evolutionary biology and with school visits from our female researchers to educational centres in Barcelona.

31.01.2020

At 12h, the short documentary “Scientifilia” (25 min with credits, ESP with English subtitles) will be screened. In the movie, the ins and outs of the scientific profession are shown through the eyes of four diverse scientists (both in gender and position) who are dedicated to research.

The short movie, which flows as a conversation, covers topics like the presence of women in the world of science, freedom in research, job insecurity or the uniqueness of the scientist job.

For the next 30 minutes, several female and male researchers from the different PRBB centers will contribute to the debate on the topics covered at the film with gender perspective, with the aim of visualizing the gender gap in science as a real problem that competes us all.

The confirmed speakers are:

The event will take place on Tuesday, February 11th, 2020, from 12pm to 13.15pm in the Auditori of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB).

#Who is your SHEro? a social media campaign

Science is full of SHEroes whose passion, work and creativity inspired Evolutionary Biologists of today.

At the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF) we want to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science sharing stories of women who had an impact in our researchers' scientific career.

Join the conversation and get to know the SHEroes that inspired IBE researchers. #WhoisyourSHEro ?

Who is your SHEro?

IBE female researchers spread the word at schools: Science has no gender!

Laura Batlle, Rocío Caro and Barbara Sinigaglia are visiting three educational centres of Barcelona to tell their students what their job involves and what inspired them to pursue a scientific career. These visits are organised with the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, February the 11th, and are aimed at giving visibility to women scientists to advance towards gender equality in science.
