First Virtual Symposium on Phylogenomics and Comparative Genomics held by IBE researchers

IBE researchers Rosa Fernández and Jesús Lozano-Fernández organize the first Virtual Symposium on Phylogenomics and Comparative Genomics. It will be held on the 16th and 17th of July through a zoom virtual room. The Symposium virtual session will also be broadcasted from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology.

The symposium stems from the interest of a team of researchers in holding a scientific meeting despite the cancellation of many international conferences in their area. "In this context, we decided to organize a virtual symposium on phylogenomics and comparative genomics so as to spark networking and collaboration within the scientific community interested in these fields during this difficult situation", says Rosa Fernández, IBE Principal Investigator and co-organizer of the virtual Symposium. Jesús Lozano-Fernández, Postdoctoral Fellow at the IBE, is co-organizing this event.

"Rosa and I were contributing to the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution meeting (SMBE2020), supposed to be held in Québec (Canada) in July, with a symposium entitled ‘Evolution through the lens of phylogenomics and comparative genomics’. During the abstract submission, our symposium was amongst the most popular, so when we knew that the conference would be cancelled, we decided to adapt our session to the current circumstances", says Lozano-Fernández.

The schedule of the Symposium can be found in this webpage. Registration is free, but required here.
