"Focus on Me, I'm visible"
The Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF) is launching the social media campaign "Focus on Me, I'm visible" to mark the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The campaign, led in coordination with the IBE Diversity Committee, is aimed at bringing gender bias in science into sharp focus. Also between the #11F and #8M (International Day of Women) IBE researchers will also virtually visit schools to share with them their personal experience as scientists and their current research. Thanks to Miriam Merenciano, Rocío Caro, Gemma Isabel Martinez and Vanina Fabiola this year we will reach over 200 students.
Over the years, science has made initial steps towards achieving gender equality. However, gender bias continues to undermine female researchers' careers.
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF) we want to bring into sharp focus the blurred stories of female researchers who have suffered or witnessed gender bias in the context of science. These anonymous testimonies, based on real experiences that are frequently left out of focus, put the spotlight on the unfortunate hardships shared by many female researchers.
