In this study we use different approaches to try to understand the evolutionary history of a complex species of diving beetles from the south-west Mediterranean, and to know the factors that determine their current distribution. For that, together with a molecular phylogeography we use morphometric measurements, ecological niche modelling using climatic conditions both from the present and estimations from the last interglacial and glacial periods, and experimental measures of their thermal tolerance. In other related studies previosly published, http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0104734) we looked at changes in protein expression associated to the speciation and differentiation process.
