The American Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR) has established an endowment fund in honour of Margarita Metallinou. Margarita was a member of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology between 2009–2014 and passed away in July 2015 in an accident while carrying fieldwork in Zambia as part of her postdoctoral project in USA.
