First DrosEU consortium workshop
First DrosEU consortium workshop

Iinterested in attending?please contact: J. González. +More info
The first DrosEU Consortium workshop will take place on the 14th and 15th April 2014 at the "Sala de Juntas" located on the 4th floor of the PRBB.
This is an extremely exciting time for population genomic studies. The recent advent of powerful next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques allows us to examine genetic variation at unprecedented scales, at the whole-genome level and with single nucleotide resolution. The continuing technological improvements and the dropping costs of these methods means that even single labs can now generate terabytes of sequence data very rapidly a relatively low cost. However, the resulting data are typically used to address only a very limited number of specific questions, so that the overall value of these data sets for the community as a whole is somewhat limited. To foster the integration and exchange of population genomic information, we therefore propose that individual European labs build up a joint effort in collecting and generating population genomic data for Drosophila species across Europe.
At this workshop, we will come up with an strategy for standardized fly sampling, we will discuss how and where to sequence the fly samples, and how to store and make the data accessible to the consortium members and to the community. Everybody interested in being part of the consortium is welcome to join the workshop. However, please send me an e-mail in advance if you are planning to attend: [email protected]
The schedule will be as follows:
Monday 14th April*:
Session 1: 9 am to 12:30am (with a coffee break**)
Lunch*** 12:30pm to 1:45pm
Session 2: 1:45 to 6:45pm (with a coffee break)
Dinner**** 7:15 pm to 8:30pm
Tuesday 15th April:
Session 1: 8:30 to 12:30 (with a coffee break)
Lunch 12:30pm to 1:45pm
Session 2: 1:45 to 5pm
*Let´s meet at the PRBB hall at 8:50 so that we can all access the building at the same time (I will give a list with names of participants to the security personnel so that access is faster). If you arrive late, just let them know that you are coming to the DrosEU workshop and they will indicate you how to get to the room.
**Coffee breaks: there is a cafeteria in the first floor of the building
***I suggest that we go to a nearby restaurant (menu prize 10.5 euros)
**** I will also organize dinner at a restaurant at the "Born" neighbourhood, we can all walk together to the restaurant
