Four young researchers get a "La Caixa" Doctoral INPhINIT Fellowship to develop their PhD at IBE
Of the 30 Retaining and 35 Incoming fellowships awarded in the 2020 edition of the programme, 4 will fund IBE PhD Students. The doctoral fellowship programme is intended to provide researchers with comprehensive training skills that will expand their possibilities for development in their professional careers, not only in the academia, but also in industry and entrepreneurship at any university or research centre in Spain or Portugal.
Of the 65 fellowships awarded in the 2020 edition of the programme, 3 Retaining and 1 Incoming will fund IBE PhD Students. The doctoral fellowship programme is intended to provide researchers with comprehensive training skills that will expand their possibilities for development in their professional careers, not only in the academia, but also in industry and entrepreneurship at any university or research centre in Spain or Portugal.
Mattia Menchetti, Adrián Talavera and Marc Palmada have been awarded with the "La Caixa" Doctoral INPhINIT Retaining Fellowship in the 2020 Call, all of them with a three-year grant. Harvinder Kaur Pawar has received the "La Caixa" Doctoral INPhINIT Incoming Fellowship in the 2020 Call.
Adrián Talavera will carry out his doctorate in the laboratory of Systematics, Biogeography and Evolution of Reptiles and Amphibians, directed by Salvador Carranza, and the Comparative Genomics lab, led by Tomàs Marquès-Bonet. "During my doctorate I will study the diversification of Iberian vipers and analyse the origin and evolution of their poisons", says Talavera.
Mattia Menchetti will join the Butterfly Diversity & Evolution Lab, led by Roger Vila. "During my PhD I will study the diversity and evolution of European ants", Menchetti says.
Harvinder Kaur Pawar and Marc Palmada will join the Comparative Genomics lab, led by Tomàs Marquès-Bonet. "I will study the evolution of gene regulation in humans and non-human primates", Pawar says. For its part, Palmada comments that "during my PhD I will study genomic assembly using information from different animals within the Comparative Genomics Laboratory".
In addition to the financial support, the "La Caixa" Doctoral INPhINIT fellowship includes a training programme on transversal skills, which has been specially designed by leading international institutions in the sector. This programme includes aspects such as technology transfer, entrepreneurship, commercialisation of innovation, intellectual property, leadership, creativity, communication skills, teamwork, personal development, planning, assertiveness and networking.
