Science is full of SHEroes whose passion, work and creativity inspired Evolutionary Biologists of today.

As part of our commitment with society, the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF) wants to give credit and visibility to the achievements of female scientists in evolution.

To that aim, we launched the campaign #WhoisyourSHEro to share stories of women who had an impact in our researchers' scientific career through our social media and website.

The campaign keeps on moving as more and more women in evolution are inspiring the IBE community.

You can join the conversation through social media under the hashtag #WhoisyourSHEro

BiodIBErsity Day 2024: May 22nd

The Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE) hosts the first BiodIBErsity Day to address the biodiversity crisis.

10.04.2024

Imatge inicial -

In celebration of Biodiversity Day, the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), is holding an interdisciplinary gathering funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya to tackle the challenges faced by the scientific community in the current biodiversity crisis and to promote planetary well-being. Organized by the IBE's Biodiversity Program, the event aims to foster collaboration among research centers to collectively address these global challenges.

Under the motto #BiodIBErsityDay2024, this multidisciplinary event on May 22nd will connect professionals in biology, evolution, ecology, conservation, environmental sciences, and other disciplines to collectively address and attempt to improve the future of biodiversity. Through 9 talks and discussion sessions, innovative solutions and effective strategies will be sought to address environmental degradation and the accelerated loss of species and genetic diversity worldwide.

The Director of the IBE, Salvador Carranza, will inaugurate the BiodIBErsity Day with a welcome address. Researchers from the Institute, along with collaborating centers such as the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio), the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB), the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), the Globe Institute - University of Copenhagen (UCPH), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich), and Berkeley University, will participate throughout the day with various talks.

The event includes various networking sessions to stimulate connections among professionals and provide space for relaxed scientific discussion. There will also be areas dedicated to poster presentations, where researchers will showcase their latest findings and results.

Those interested in joining this initiative can register here BiodIBErsity Day 2024 and follow updates on the social media channels of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE) and use the hashtag #BiodIBErsityDay2024 to join the conversation
